ever had a dèjá vu? i definitely did as i unpacked my gear and realised that i was meeting up with the same couple, same dog, on the same beach, barely a year after their session. i guess you could say that the one new addition would be the fact that they were now… three. elisa and victor rocked it in front of my camera before, and they sure are fun enough to rock it in front of the camera again… and again… and again. elisa braved the chilly weather and came with all kinds of ideas to the shoot, i ended up with sand in my ears (no joke!), laika, the dog had plenty of outside time, and elisa and victor got to have their portraits taken to remember this new and exciting season of their lives. i have to say… if I had to do it all over again, i would.
we were not alone. we had met at a birthday party some weeks earlier and hit it off right away. we started talking about our common interest in photography, and the rest you can see in the photos that took place soon afterwards. as we walked through the sunny beach, with the light seabreeze, and the fishing boats in plain sight, the beach kept getting invaded by groups of horseback riders every few minutes. we took to the water, playing fetch with the dog and going into the occasional game of tag. the sun kissed my cheeks as elisa & victor kissed… well… each other. we laughed and walked and smiled and they even danced a tango on the sand until the sun said it’s sad goodnight. then i pulled out my speedlites and we created a little magic. created it? i meant to say captured it. you see, the magic was already there. see for yourself!
family photo session in lanzarote.
it was paradise. that’s what i thought when i first took a look at the location for this beautiful family shoot. ainhoa, ignacio, leire, and paul were finishing off their summer vacation in lanzarote by picking a breathtaking beach surrounded by mountains for their family photo shoot. after much splashing around, hiking in flip-flops, and going from one gorgeous spot to the next we were surprised by the most amazing sunset! i have to say this was one of the most beautiful sunsets i have ever photographed in and am more than happy that i was able to deliver these images to them. looking back on them now as i glance outside my bilbao window with a fray and rainy sky all i can honestly say is “can we please go back?”

in retrospect, maybe we should have brought a map. marcos, his wife juli and i had arranged to meet up and do a fun maternity photo shoot in a specific side of the beach in sopelana. as we got in the car and started heading that way we realised… we weren’t sure which way to go. somewhere in the excitement of planning this day we had all lost track of where we were going. literally. we knew exactly where we were going but no idea how to get there. after an emergency call to my friend “who knows every beach” and many wrong turns, we decided to give up and walk around the surrounding woods, hoping to at least be able to get a few good shots in before the sun went down. oh, and the sun. the sun was sitting perfectly in between the trees, it was definitely shining down on us. it is worth mentioning that as i laid down my backpack and jacket against a tree while i took photos of these two, a nearby dog decided to mark it’s territory… on my stuff. so that was fun! haha. after a while venturing in the woods (big points to juli for venturing while 8 months pregnant!) we were eventually able to find the spot we’d been looking for. the sunset was there to welcome us and we were happy to take advantage of it and take it from there. all in all, the photos turned out great and i think that it was well worth getting lost and having to toss my jacket in the laundry! 😉
congratulations marcos and juli, i can’t wait to meet him! 🙂
