they looked so grown up and so small at the same time. adrián and good friend aser put on their suit and rocked it out in front of the camera. mini-studs. it was a few weeks before their first communion and their mom’s, aitziber and monika, decided to go the non-traditional route and forget about the photo studio for their first communion portraits. instead we went out on a warm spring day and had fun with spontaneous races, trying not to fall into the water, and seeing who could jump the highest off a huge rock. of course, we also had time for some fun family portraits. these two were dreading having their pictures taken at first, but as you can see… they got over it pretty quickly! 😉
from mexico with love. that’s what crossed my head when i met jose and alex. recently married, they relocated to spain and decided it was a great time to take some photos to commemorate their story and this new beginning together. these photos were all taken during a walk/hike we took to the gorgeous chapel in san juan de gaztelugatxe. all i can say is i hope that their new walk together through life is as beautiful as this one, but a little easier on the hike!
we couldn’t have planned it. backtracking to when susana and i first talked about doing a winter shoot with the kids, victor and aitor, we had planned for some winter fun running around a mountain with oversized winter hats and scarves. the occasional puddle. pink cheeks as proof of the winter air. but nature had other plans. as the date neared we were suddenly surprised by a snowstorm. as one may suspect, we don’t get much snow in spain… at least not in this area. so we grabbed our colourful snow clothes and set out to have snow fights, race while your feet sink in, and scream down a slope on a sleigh. we couldn’t have planned it, but if we had it couldn’t have been any more fun.
we talked about it forever, and we finally went for it. this fall pablo alonso and i finally arranged out schedules to meet up for a photo session. it is a common frustration with photographers to find that most everyone else in their lives has nice and updated portraits while their own are just not as updated or lacking some creativity. it is also common among photographers to take matters into their own hands and exchange sessions with other photographers. its win-win. so this was the time for pablo and i to play the game. we decided on an urban location and had a great time geeking out. i have to admit that i was a bit nervous as this was my first time photographing a photographer, but all in all i am glad we decided to give it a shot. pun intended.
meet pablo. he is a talented musician who has been studying music and will soon be moving to madrid to pursue his dream of being a full-time musician. after a mentoring session and hanging out several times after that, we decided that we should do some professional photos before the big move. so we met up in san sebastian and explored around unknown corners of the charming city. what started out as a photo shoot ended up as an evening full of photos, music, and a fantastic time.
good luck in madrid!
