she’s insane. this has got to be one of my favorite things about my little sister anna, she is up to anything. she will be ridiculous in the middle of the street, blast opera singing, dance, or do whatever i want or comes to mind. i wanted to go out and try some lighting techniques and of course we ended up doing a bit of an impromptu photo session, with our friend jasone, and just have fun and hang out and see what we could come up with. i have to say i am really happy with the results. we have to do this again!
she’s my guinea pig. ask any photographer how they got started or who they turn to when they want to experiment with new a new concept or technique and they will all tell you the same: family. i am lucky enough to have this absolutely crazy sister who trusts me with just about anything. i was on spring break and not traveling (for a change) and i suddenly felt the urge to take my camera out for a spin. i called anna up and she was here within the hour for an evening of walking around, laughing at anything and everything, and of course… going into the woods at night and making her lie down in front of a car. like i said, she’s up for anything, and it’s definitely part of her charm.
she’s a knockout. yeah, i went there! i met reetta a couple weeks ago as she is the new intern. she is from finland. i am notorious for being terrible at remembering names (great at faces though!) and for a while there i thought it would be funny to just call her “finland.” about two weeks into this, and with her always responding gracefully to her new nickname, i casually found out that she practices boxing on the regular. uh-oh! so i decided then and there to make it a priority in my life to remember, and use, her beautiful-beautiful name! haha.
i also thought it was imperative to take some photos of her, her boxing gloves, and her new city as a backdrop and do some portraits that would show a fun contrast between her gorgeous features, femininity, and favourite sport! these were definitely a bit edgier than my usual photos and were really fun to do. i should also mention that and we took them against the clock as she was actually on her way to hit the boxing gym. i really like how they turned out, i hope
you will too.
we talked about it forever, and we finally went for it. this fall pablo alonso and i finally arranged out schedules to meet up for a photo session. it is a common frustration with photographers to find that most everyone else in their lives has nice and updated portraits while their own are just not as updated or lacking some creativity. it is also common among photographers to take matters into their own hands and exchange sessions with other photographers. its win-win. so this was the time for pablo and i to play the game. we decided on an urban location and had a great time geeking out. i have to admit that i was a bit nervous as this was my first time photographing a photographer, but all in all i am glad we decided to give it a shot. pun intended.
